Training at Austin Academy of Aviation

We believe that our students receive the best training available through a structured "mission oriented" course that allows for self-paced study. Ground school is available via one on one study with your instructor or by a CD/DVD interactive home learning program. Our Chief Instructor has 20,000 hours of flight instruction experience and is on-site and available to students at any time.

We keep our planes in top operating condition so that you will never have to worry about an interruption in your training because an airplane is not available for you to fly. Our airplanes are all similar inside and out so that you won't have the distraction of trying to figure out a new airplane while trying to learn crucial skills. None of the planes in our fleet are more than five years old and include modern conveniences such as GPS which allows you to learn how to use the next wave of navigation and aeronautical technologies.

Learning to fly at Austin Bergstrom International Airport has advantages as well. In flying from Bergstrom you will have a chance to interact with Air Traffic Control on a regular basis. These communication skills are essential for flying to many cities that you may want to visit as a Private Pilot. Pilots who learn to fly at smaller airports often never get a chance to talk to Air Traffic Control during their training and are at a disadvantage when trying to fly to locations such as Houston, Dallas, or San Antonio where you must talk with a controller.

We offer multiple levels of training:

  • Private Pilot - With your private pilot rating you will be able to fly day or night so long as you avoid certain weather conditions.
  • Instrument Rated Pilot - Once you become an Instrument Rated Pilot you can fly in weather conditions where you cannot rely on vision outside the cockpit and must rely on your instruments to guide you to your destination.
  • Commerical Pilot - A commerical pilot can fly for profit with charter operations, corporations, or as a Certified Flight Instructor.
  • Certified Flight Instructor - As a CFI you can train Private Pilots to fly.
  • Certified Flight Instructor, Instrument - As a CFII you can train pilots as Instrument Rated Pilots.

  • We also provide specialized and continuing learning courses:

  • "Pinch Hitter's Course" - Let your loved ones learn the basics of controlling an aircraft should you become incapacitated while flying.
  • Biennial Flight Review - Let us take care of your biennial.
  • Instrument Proficieny Check - Let us take care of your prof check.
  • Complex & High Performance Sign-off - Fly faster.
  • Emergency Procedures Refresher
  • Aircraft Systems Refresher
  • Instrument Pilot Refreshers - Refresh your knowledge of instrument procedures, navigation chart interpretation and weather.
  • When you train with AAoA you can also earn college credit toward an aviation related degree through an agreement between Cessna and Mountain State University! More details here. You can also finance your training through Sallie Mae, a leader in student and career training loans. For financing information click here.
