The Dream of Flight...

Man has always looked to the sky and dreamed of flying. For nearly twenty years Austin Academy of Aviation has been making this dream come true for those who decide that looking skyward is no longer enough. Skycatcher

Three Planes, Four Engines

Two Engines on One Plane - AAoA has recently purchased a Baron 55 twin engine aircraft, N1076W. With this addition to the fleet you can now train through multi-engine ratings with us or make short work of long flights, cruising at 173-188 knots. Seating five persons you'll be able to travel in style (as Bob Barker would say.) Keep an eye on our Aircraft section for pictures and more info.

Two Engines on Two Planes - AAoA also has two of the all new sleek Cessna 162 Skycatchers on order. In fact we will be one of the first flight schools in the nation to receive one when they begin shipping in mid-2008. The Skycatcher is the first Cessna made Light Sport Aircraft (LSA), a new breed of aircraft for the FAA's new Sport Pilot Certificate.

Garmin

Two Garmin 1000's are better than one!

122VK, our 2005 Cessna 172SP with the Garmin 1000 Glass Cockpit system now has a sister aircraft, 123VK, a 2006 C172SP! Our commitment to providing the best and most up to date training available in Central Texas led to the acquisition of these high-tech aircraft so that our students and pilots would be on the cutting edge of available flight technology. Austin Academy of Aviation is one of the only flight schools in Central Texas to have this technology available. Fly with peace of mind knowing that you have real-time weather displayed over your route and can avoid it, know where you are at a glance, and know everything you need to know about the aircraft's status with a glance at the LCD displays.

The Garmin 1000 cockpit presents all information needed for flight on two LCD displays. GPS data is overlayed with real-time Nexrad radar data, terrain awareness, and many more goodies. The plane has traffic avoidance systems installed to help you see other traffic by displaying it on your flight displays. As a bonus you can now relax with XM satellite radio available directly on the Comm panel.
A conventional "steam gauge" cockpit is the classic cockpit used in aircraft. Information is presented on guages while GPS data is provided on GPS units. All of our aircraft have GPS installed.

School TripDid you like field trips in school? AAoA is always planning trips to fun destinations. Take a look at our current destinations and sign up for the trips here.

Quick Facts - All airplanes currently based at Austin Bergstrom with tail numbers ending in "VK" were originally bought from the Cessna factory and operated by AAoA.

- Virgil Kennedy, the Chief Instructor at AAoA, has flown as an instructor over 20,000 hours - more than the total flight time of many airline captains.
